Ashley Sankey gets in close with her family as they celebrate her graduation from Bush Middle School.“
Originally built as Ensley Middle School in 1901, it was later changed to Bush Middle School, in honor of Ernest F. Bush, the first superintendent of schools for Ensley. Bush would go under multiple moves and name changes, finally resulting in Bush STEAM academy which stands today.
From Ashley: “My middle school years, I felt like I needed to fit in because I grew up in Ensley. So Ensley when we were growing up, a lot of the gangs had moved in, so, you want to be good but you don’t want to be picked on. This was bullying before bullying was a thing. You want to be good but you get caught up in foolery. That was the first time my grades started slipping, because I thought being cool was being bad. It was a blessing I graduated.“
