Charles is practicing with his bandmates at Green Acres Elementary. 

It’s hard to fully grasp the role music has played in the progression of Ensley and its people. Erskine Hawkins put Ensley on the map musically with his hit “Tuxedo Junction” in 1939. Many other musicians from the area gained notoriety such as Jothan Callins (younger brother of gallery subject Aldrich) and Daniel Jose Carr. Today, people like Ashley Sankey and Manuel Ferguson are continuing that tradition in their own way.
