This is Aldrich’s childhood home on 12th Place. Aldrich was the oldest of 8 children.
Around WW2, Ensley Works was at or near the height of its prominence; Steel mills across the country were working around the clock to craft materials for the war. This led to a temporary boost in Ensley’s economy.
From a social standpoint In the 1940s, African Americans in Ensley faced segregation and limited job opportunities, often working in mills or as domestic laborers. Despite challenges, they built strong communities through churches, schools, and local businesses.
